Trunk or Treat Ideas

Here is a list of ideas for how you can decorate your trunk this year!

Miracle of Jesus (Luke 5: 3-10) Have a boat or canoe with nets and fishing rods. Children can fish out of the boat.


Jesus Walking on Water (Mark 6: 45-51) Use blue cardboard and blue tablecloths to create the look of water and waves coming from the trunk out onto the ground in front of the trunk. The kids can walk on water to get their candy from the trunk.


Ravens feed Elijah (1 Kings 17: 4-6) Decorate with moon, stars, cloud, bats, bread, water, or creek. Have a black bird on a pulley system that gives candy to the children.


Feeding of the 5,000 (Matthew 14:13-21) Have many large baskets sitting around the trunk with items made to look like bread and fish. Have a basket and picnic setup on the ground.

Wall of Jericho (Joshua 6) Decorate with trumpets and a wall - boxes that are spray painted gray and stacked up on each other. Marching around wall to get candy. (optional - have the children knock the wall down)


Lazarus Raised from the Dead (John 11:1-44) Have someone wrapped as if dead (mummy) and have someone else play Jesus and call Lazarus forth from the dead. The mummy can give candy.


God is my Healer (Matthew 8:2, 5, 9:27) Red emergency signs, stethoscopes, bandages, crutches, BP cuffs, walker, etc. Have people dressed in scrubs/doctor outfits around the trunk of the car handing out the candy.


Solomon's Temple (1 Kings 6) Have pillars/columns (you can make these with cardboard carpet rolls you can get for free from carpet stores - spray paint them white) sitting at the edge of the trunk, ivy, gold vases/bowls, cherubim’s, trees, and flowers. Give out gold coin candy from gold bowls – dressed in toga.


Noah’s Ark (Genesis 8) Use cardboard to design an ark coming from trunk. Put blue plastic/cloth on the ground for water and have stuffed animals on top of the ark.


God’s promises (Genesis 9: 16, ) Rainbow/cloud above vehicle. Cross for Jesus.


Jonah and the Whale (Jonah 1:17) Hang large white sharp teeth (use paper) from the top and bottom of the trunk. Fill the trunk with red cloth/plastic for whale belly and have a person dressed in a robe sitting in the trunk or a large doll dressed in a robe. Sign can say “Where He Leads, I will Follow - Jonah 1:17” with a whale on it.


Fishers of Men (Matthew 4: 19-20) Have the trunk full of blue plastic/cloth that looks like water, cut some waves and fish from paper and glue to the ‘water’. Hang seaweed from the trunk with green streamers, fish, and sea creatures. Sign: “Then He said to them “Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men” Have fishing poles and children can fish for their candy over a wall of water.


Fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5) Hang a fruit banner: “The Fruit of the Holy Spirit”. In the trunk, put bowls filled with fruit. Have trees around vehicle with fruit signs (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) made out of cardboard.


Jesus cleanses Us (1 John 1:9) Sign: “Soul cleansing”. Washer and dryer (made out of cardboard) with clothes line, basket of clothes, laundry detergent, etc.


Holy Armor of God (Ephesians 6) Dress up as a warrior to hand out candy. Decorate vehicle with breast plates, shields, belts, swords, helmets, flaming (red/yellow tissue paper) darts. Sign: “Put on the whole armor of God”


Holy Ghost lives here (Acts 2:1-5) Cardboard/plastic/cloth ghosts, ring (fluorescent necklaces) toss around ghosts (pumpkins painted white with eyes) Sign: “The only ghost that lives here is the Holy Ghost”


God’s Team (3 John 1:8) Sports themed items, pomp oms, flags, towels, banners, etc. Sign: “God’s team members are winners” Have kids work together to do something or throw a ball to get candy.


God’s Love (1 John 4:7-8) Hearts everywhere (different sizes), candy kisses, pink and red streamers. Sign: “God loves at all times”


Sweet Jesus ( Exodus 15:25) Large lollypops, large M and M’s, colorful streamers. Sign: “”Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus” Verse matching activity: Matthew 20:8 = Paydays, Neh. 8:10 = Almond Joy, Gen 9:13 = Skittles, Proverbs 19:8 = Skittles, Psalm 148:1 = Starburst, Psalm 126:2 = Laffy Taffy


Jesus our Savior (1 John 4:10) Life preserver, life vests, rafts, hula skirts, parrot, anything pool related. Sign: “Jesus Saves”


Old fashion (Hebrews 13:7-9) Old artifacts, radios, coke memorabilia, old wagons, old suitcases, etc. Sign: “We’ve got that old time religion”


Jesus is our Hero (Luke 19:10) Dress up as Jesus. Have costumes hanging around of Superman, Batman, Wonder woman, etc.


Moses in a basket (Exodus 2) Water (paper/cardboard/plastic) for river, green plants, trees, and basket with baby doll wrapped up.


Baptizing in the Name of Jesus (Matthew 3:16, Acts 2:38) Create a scene of a baptismal or have someone being baptized in the trunk, baby doll/ manikin, doves above vehicle, trees, water (paper/ cardboard/plastic).


Nativity (Matthew 2) Baby in a manger, star of David, other stars, animals around vehicle – sheep, goats, straw/hay


The Lord is Good (Psalms 34:8, Nahum 1:7) Dress as cooks. Mixing bowls, flour, sugar, canisters, spoons, etc. Give out candy from silver mixing bowls. Sign: “Taste and See that the Lord is good”


Fall foliage (1 John 4:19) Sign: “Fall in Love with Jesus” Decorate with all sizes of pumpkins, fall colored leaves, corn stalks, hay bales, etc.


Bear with others (Ephesians 4:2) Sign: “Bear with One Another in Love” Decorate with trees, tree limbs, stuffed bear, Sign: Do not feed the bear”, camp fire, marsh mellows, camping chairs


Land of Milk and Honey or God is sweet as honey (Psalms 119:103) Cardboard honey bees, hives honey pots, and green grass/rolling hills.


Wilderness, 40 days/40 nights ( Isaiah 40:3-5) Trees, deer (other wilderness animals), camo, logs, dead leaves all over the ground, twigs, logs to sit on, etc.


Let go/Let God (Proverbs 3:5-6) Balloon popping with streamers, path created up to the place to throw Sign: The Verse


Treasures in Heaven (Matthew 6:21) Pool and sand for a sand box, treasure box. Have children find candy in the sand box with shovels, sifters, pales, etc.


Jesus washes away our sins ( ) Rubber ducks, white and blue balloons for bubbles, tub, real bubbles


And God shut them In (Genesis 7:16) Stuffed animals in crates in the trunk, ramp created out of cardboard up to the trunk/ark


Defeat Goliath (1 Samuel 17) Create a large Goliath out of cardboard with all of his armor on. Have children throw beam bags (made to look as a rock) at his forehead to get the candy. Sign: “Do not fear”


Punch it out (Deuteronomy 31:6) Have multiple plastic cups lined up with tissue paper held on the cups with rubber bands with the candy inside. Have kids punch through the tissue paper to receive the candy. Create a muscle arm out of cardboard (or boxing gloves) and display it with streamers. Sign: “Be strong and courageous”


The King (Matthew 28:6) Have a tomb/rocks created out of cardboard with black felt on the opening with the “rock rolled away. Sign: “The grave could not hold the King” Could also have black felt around with spiders and spider webs.


Owl time (Philippians 4:19-20) Owls everywhere, all sizes. Sign: “Owl you need is Jesus” and “Guess who loves you? Jesus”


Door to Jesus (John 10:9) Have a real door painted in a colorful color or make a cardboard door. Decorate around the door with fall foliage. Have the children knock to get the candy. Sign: “I am the door.” And “Anyone enters by me, he will be saved.”


Falling for Jesus ( ) Sign: “Fall-O-Ween Jesus” Fall foliage, pumpkins


Daniel and the Lion’s den (Daniel 6) Have a stuffed lion in the trunk and create a hole with leaves and dirt around it.


Let your Light shine (Psalm 119:105) Lamp with shade, bible open, world/globe, fake candles Sign: “Light of the world”


Jesus died (Psalms 27:1) White sheet with Cross in front of it with a light behind it. Sign: “Jesus died on the cross for our sins”


10 Commandments (Exodus 20) Create the 10 commandments on tablets out of cardboard, place ivy around them, have them coming out of the trunk.


Donkey time (Matthew 21:2) Have pictures of donkeys or make them out of cardboard. Show the children the cross that is on every donkeys back. Activity: Pin the tail on the donkey. Sign: “The donkey carried Marry to Bethlehem and one carried Jesus to Jerusalem to the Cross”

Fear Not (Isaiah 43:1) Painted large black cardboard cat with orange background, spiders, snakes, etc. Sign: “Fear Not for I am with You”


Calling servants to Jesus (Psalm 2:11, John 12:26) Dress as butlers, maids, etc. to give out candy with silver trays and white cloths. Have a table finely set for a fancy dinner for display.


Fully Rely On God (Exodus 7:25–8:15) Sign: “FROG - Fully Rely On God” Frogs everywhere! All sizes!
